When designing the new Böker BRONCO fixed outdoor knife, Böker set themselves ambitious goals. It should be at the cutting edge of technical possibilities and offer optimal functionality with regard to modern needs. For this purpose it should have the following properties:

• Universal and optimal usability for all professional outdoor users such as: bushcrafters, campcrafters, survivalists, long-distance hikers, hunters, SAR teams and others
• A blade made of CPM steel at the highest level of metallurgical possibilities
• A handle that sits comfortably in the hand even when working for long periods of time, completely encloses the continuous tang and does not dissipate heat from the hand when it is cold
• A high quality leather sheath that can be worn with or without a dangler to protect the knife from loss
  Protects against damage, has a holder for a fire steel and is equipped with one
  100% production at the Solingen/Germany location
• A moderate price considering the features

We were able to implement these ambitious requirements in the following way: The CPM-3V was developed by Crucible Industries LLC the specialist and global market leader for powder metallurgical steels to achieve unprecedented shock load tolerance and fracture elasticity with an incredible edge retention and hardness of 62-63 HRC and to ensure splinter safety. These properties of the powder metallurgical carbon steel were achieved, among other things, through a precisely tailored chromium content of 7.5%. In this way, the positive properties of the alloy element Cr, such as increasing wear resistance and hardenability, could be used and at the same time a fine structure could be obtained.

The universal wide drop point blade with a high saber grind has always been the hunter's preferred shape for large and small game and is also suitable for both fine tasks such as stick feathering and for rough tasks such as the obligatory batoning. The tang is continuous and protrudes a few millimeters from the end of the handle. This ensures maximum stability and the fishing rod can also withstand strong hits from a log or other object. A short part of the back of the blade forms sharp 90° edges on both sides for sparking from the included fire starter. TPE thermoplastic elastomer was chosen as the handle material, which completely encloses the tang and has a structure that provides grip in any direction of load. TPE is durable, elastic, non-slip and has low thermal conductivity. The knife sits securely in the hand in all weather and working conditions and does not drain your fingers of strength in wet and cold conditions. Compared to ordinary elastomers, TPE also has the advantage of reducing the burden on the environment during production, as this is purely physical and the lengthy and energy-intensive vulcanization of chemically cross-linked elastomers is no longer necessary.

The equipment includes a quiver leather sheath - the supreme discipline in sheath making - with a deep and secure fit for the knife. The knife is therefore optimally protected against loss and damage when wielding it, without requiring a security device that is prone to damage and makes quick access more difficult. A removable dangler allows you to either carry it high on the belt or lower it under the hip belt of the touring backpack. In addition, the knife is equipped with a 9.3 cm fire starter / metal match from the market leader Light My Fire, which fits into a wide, tight-fitting leather loop that is firmly integrated into the piping. This makes the Böker BRONCO a compact, versatile and complete wilderness and survival tool that can handle any situation.
